Mobile devices enable people to be reached wherever they are, that's the original intention for mobile phone. But do people really want to be reachable? People lead a series of researches, from them we can get some general ideas about this issue. In a survey published in TELECOMWORLDWIRE-20 January 2005, they found thatSwedish mobile users like to be reachable.

Swedish telecomms operator Vodafone Sverige AB (Vodafone Sweden) said on Thursday (13 January) that according to a recent survey, six out of ten Swedish mobile users were frustrated of not being reachable. One-third of mobile users also quoted reachability as being one of the main advantages of having e-mail on their mobile phone, while one-quarter prioritised greater work flexibility to allow less time to be spent at the office and more time to be spent with their families. Some 20% of those surveyed liked the idea of not having to carry their computers around with them. Vodafone said that many Swedes see a definite advantage in being able to send e-mails by mobile phone and would use the function more often if they didn't perceive it as being too awkward. A total of 53% of those surveyed were attracted by the idea of sending e-mails from their mobile phone, but only 8% said that they used their mobile phones for sending e-mails on a frequent basis. The biggest obstacle was the keyboard which 40% considered to be too small, while some 20% maintained that it takes too long to download e-mails. 10% of those surveyed believed that adjusting the settings was too complicated.
