Conclusion: Within 10 years from now, employees no longer have to be co-located with their colleagues or bosses during the majority of their time. By then, new technologies such as broadband networks, 3G mobile networks, portals and knowlegde management will have transformed the workplace and the way we work together.

Supporting Evidence:
see Gartner in "Prepare for a World That Links People, Places and Objects" on gartner.com

"Emerging technology and trends will transform the ability of businesses and people to control their work and personal environments. Enterprises must successfully face the business and human challenges that will arise in the always-on, always-connected network world of 2014."
and
"In a connected world, the workforce and the workplace will change. You'll no longer need to be co-located with your colleagues or bosses. Companies will take advantage of technology to save on office space — up to $10,000 per desk per year. By 2014, the majority of the information workers in the United States and Europe will visit dedicated company premises only once a week or less.
and
"Enterprises must first overcome social inertia by adapting behaviors and organizations to the massive scale of remote working that technology enables. For example, JetBlue's airline call center employees all work from home, proving that the transition is possible. Responsibility for many work-related matters will move from the enterprise to the individual. Workers will become less like employees and more like trusted associates of the company. Expect to see more Hollywood-style hiring models, where every product is a project and where specialist teams are brought together to produce something of value and disbanded when the task is done."
