Scenario 2nd. The negative approaching and WCDMA as the substitute
In 2006.
Although MIC(Ministry of Information & Communication)'s Strong Will and Support the legislation about IpTV and the other Telecommunication & Broadcasting convergence services, the response to MIC's IT 839 Stretegy is very negative. KT and SKTelecom invest very conservatively on the Wibro network deployment from 2006 to 2007. There is no service coverage advantage, price and terminal for this new service. In 2006, Wibro service subscriber is under 1K.
In 2007.
VoIP service operators hesitates to adapt their servie on Wibro because of inter connect rates. KT and SKTelecom don't want to make sacrifice their mobile business revenue for this new service of uncertainty. And till 3/4 of 2007, Wibro terminal is only PCMCIA priced 200$ because terminal vendors including non-majors believe Wibro business as the uncertatinties. But WCDMA is getting more popular because of the national-wide coverage and service operator's promotion program. The subscriber is over 300K and the switching over from CDMA to WCDMA is getting fast. The Wibro service user is about 10K.
In 2008.
The Intel platform business based on WiMax from 2008 is not a strong driving force for Wibro. At first, WiMAX is not welcommed in the developed conturies but for the not developed or developing conturies. in the IT-Infra point of view, Korea is not developing contury. And second is the interoperability between WiMAX and WiFi, customers prefer the individual and small WiFi network. The wireless service are divided two categories; one is mobile service through CDMA/WCDMA and the other is wirless data service t. But the technology is same, WCDMA. WCDMA fails to satisfy customer on the price issues. But the combination seevice and its price is one of good options for customer. Many customer want to use voice service + data service with one solution along with their mobile & e-communicty life. The WCDMA service is getting more popular and CDMA is specialized on Voice and M-to-M (Machine-to-macine) service. WCDMA voice + data service as like video chat. The WCDMA user is 2M. and Wibro is 20K.
In 2009 ~ 2010
Korea is the leading contury in Wireless Data Service, E-Society and Terminal but it's not based on Wibro. 4G specification is on-going and gets notice more and more because of the 3.5G (Wibro & WiMAX) failure.
