How highly ranked are Russian educational institutions?

Russia has one of the most highly educated populations in the world. The country has more than 70,000 primary and secondary schools and more than 82,000 pre-schools. One of the strongest facets of the Russian education system is that, a majority of the schools are in rural areas compared urban areas, making education accessible to all areas of the country.

As of 2003, there were more around six million students studying in higher education institutions, out of which five million accounted for governmental and around one million accounted for non-governmental education institutions. Furthermore, the literacy rate in Russia is one of the highest in the world, at 99.4% for the total population. The high literacy rate signifies that there is a large educated workforce in the economy.


However, the education expenditures of GPD is 3.8 in 2005 which ranked as 117 of 182.
