Questions

  1. What (global) historic events have led to privacy issues? (Folkert)
  2. When did privacy become an issue & Who started private information? (Robert)

This question is really hard to answer. There is no evidence of someone starting private information or mentioning privacy for the first time. We can say that the bible is one of the oldest books mentioning privacy. But even this is not yet evidence of starting private information. If we take a look at the history of encryption[1], the Greek started to encrypt messages in the fifth century BC which is a form of private information. But even the Egyptians had private information. The Egyptian empire goes as far as 20000 years back in time. They already encrypted their language in a way of hieroglyphics which we are not able to read fully today. Our guess is that as long as people are living there is private information.
