Before explaining the different licenses it is important to be familiar with the symbols that represent the different licenses:

Attrib.gifAttribution (by): You let others copy, distribute, display, and perform your copyrighted work — and derivative works based upon it — but only if they give credit the way you request.

Noncomm.gifNon-commercial(nc): You let others copy, distribute, display, and perform your work — and derivative works based upon it — but for non-commercial purposes only.

Nomod.gifNo Derivative Works(nd): You let others copy, distribute, display, and perform only verbatim copies of your work, not derivative works based upon it.

Shal.JPGShare Alike (sa): You allow others to distribute derivative works only under a license identical to the license that governs your work.

Creative Commons offers 6 main licenses. Below those 6 are listed from the most restricted to the less restricted ones:
1.Attribution Non-commercial No Derivatives (by-nc-nd)Attrib.gifNoncomm.gifNomod.gif

2.Attribution Non-commercial Share Alike (by-nc-sa)Attrib.gifNoncomm.gifShal.JPG

3.Attribution Non-commercial (by-nc)Attrib.gifNoncomm.gif

4.Attribution No Derivatives (by-nd)Attrib.gifNomod.gif

5.Attribution Share Alike (by-sa)Attrib.gifShal.JPG

6.Attribution (by)Attrib.gif

To understand the different main licenses in a fun way, take a look at the comic [1]

Please note that those are only the main licenses, CC also offers other licenses (special licenses for software or for allowing only snippets of the work to be remixed)
