Statement

The amount of traffic jams is still growing.

Driving Force

The amount of traffic jams is growing faster than the new amount of cars. Remarkable is the following: over the last period of time the amount of traffic experienced a grow of 13 percent while the travelling times increased with 53 percent. The most important reasons for the increase in traffic jams are:

  • The grow in population

The amount of people is still growing in The Netherlands and especially in urban areas.

  • The grow of car owners

Where care where a rare luxury in the past, today almost everyone can afford a car.

  • Economy

The economy has grown, people have more money to spend.

Without the extra roads the time loss would not have been 53 percent but 66 percent.
