Environmental

What impact does the environmental movement have on electronic devices have currently?

What forces are currently present in the environmental movement?

What are governments doing to help the environment, and how does this relate to IT?

Questions due to deeper insight

What impact does the media have on the acceptance of technology? of ubi-computing?

How will ubicomputing overcome 'the brutal regime of the everyday?' (p.34 of Everyware)

Will Moore's law prevail for the coming years? Currently it seems very plausible that Moore's law will continue to prevail as the potential of multi-core processing will allow processor speeds to double for many years. The development from single-core to multi-core will allow processor speeds to double by just adding another processor. For example: currently to double the processor speed, instead of having one powerful processor, Intel has developed a Duo-core chip. This trend will continue to push forward. Intel had already developed a quad-core processor, and will continue to develop a 8-core processor, etc.

Not only does the development avoid the problem of energy required to power high speed chips, it also continues (if not quickens) the development of producing smaller chips. This latter development would stimulate the development of ubi-computing, as chips will become inexpensive, small, and powerful enough to be embedded into the environment.

What are the driving forces which will restrict the development of this technology?

What are the driving forces that will push this technology?

What are the developments affecting these driving factors?

What competitive forces are there to stimulate the development of this technology?
