Perception Questions

4. What is the global understanding of privacy? (Robert)
There is not really a global understanding of privacy. It is better to speak of an individual understanding of privacy. Every person has his or her own understanding of privacy. This is often reflected in the political parties. As R.B. Standler says in his essay: “Privacy is the expectation that confidential personal information disclosed in a private place will not be disclosed to third parties, when that disclosure would cause either embarrassment or emotional distress to a person of reasonable sensitivities. Information is interpreted broadly to include facts, images (e.g., photographs, videotapes), and disparaging opinions.”[1] In short: The right to be left alone. Although we can not speak of global understanding, we can divide the world into countries. Each country has more or less its own rules and legislation regarding privacy (see law section). But the understanding of people about privacy is changing. People are getting more and more scared of terrorist attacks. Which means that some people change their opinion on what privacy is or better what private information is. Even Complete countries like the US are changing their policies regarding to privacy.
