Neglect of the elderly can be described in different degrees from the loss of self respect to outright abuse.  Many societies have not brought this issue to light until recent years so historical data is difficult to find.  Mental abuse, physical abuse, financial abuse, sexual abuse resulting in a loss of human rights and a decreased quality of life.
The upcoming shortage of (para-)medical professionals will lead to a restricted availability of hospital care. This can e.g. lead to ‘post-code healthcare’ (redistribution of care to those who can affort it) or to an evenly distributed shortage
