Description:

The founders and executive management of the first batch of companies have moved on - either joined one of the big players, left to join VCs, or start or join a completely new thing. This means a lot of experience of what did and didn't work is in the mix.

Enablers:

  • Big players on the Internet who have been there for a long time; Microsoft, Yahoo, Amazon, AOL
  • Current issues with the Internet; safety, spam and lack of standards and laws in these areas to fight it more efficiently

Inhibitors:

Nothing holds backs experience however using it to your advantage and taking the plunge to suggest or even force (breakthrough) changes based on your experience might be a big challenge. In many cases you'll have to convince people why the change is required and overcome resistence.

Paradigms:

While these companies do have a lot of experience and could provide a whole lot of information and influence on where the Internet is/will be going they are also big and big companies often have the name of being slow in adapting to and adoption of new technology. It could be that new companies will emerge by using the technology/information/lessons learned from the big companies simply because they can adapt faster
