Revision as of 19:11, 11 December 2021

Description:

Aluminium converter foil is an important commodity on the EU market with a market value of 630 million Euro. It serves, in particular, the packaging and electric car battery industries. The tariffs will help defend EU companies and workers in this sector: the imports of aluminium converter foil from China will no longer enjoy an unfair advantage over the Union industries and will compete on an equal grounding. European Commission has imposed definitive anti-dumping duties on imports of aluminium converter foil originating in the People’s Republic of China. The duties range from 15.4% to 28.5%.

Enablers:

Chinese exporters' dumping had caused damages to Europe as below,

1. Forcing the Union industry to a loss-making price level

2. EU losing market share, EU producers are under unfair competition

Inhibitors

1. China govenment's heavy subsidies on aluminium converter foil

2. China products' cost competitiveness

Paradigms:

US government imposed countervailing and anti-dumping measure on certain products from China in 2012 to strategically protect national interest.

Timing:

Ongoing now since 8th Dec. 2021
