Can the mobile phone be used as a wallet?

The use of the mobile phone as a wallet is no longer an issue of technology. The issue is if the mobile phone operators are able to find a suitable business model together with the carriers and the consumer banks.

Another (more technical) issue is that in order to pay with the mobile device when there is no network avaiilable, it could still be necessary to pay with the mobile device. For this special functionality is needed in the mobile device.
