Description

Mainstream industrial farming today is a highly optimized and over producing operation that is in many ways destroying our planet. With the world and consumers focused on trying to slow the death of the planet, alternative practices have been developed to continue growing food for our ever increasing population. Some of the main technologies of today include Permaculture, Biodynamic Farming, Hydropaunics, Aquaponics, Urban Agriculture, Agroforestry, Polycultures, Natural animal raising, Natural pest management and mulching/manual weed control.

Enablers

Most of these systems have proven to be profit makers though not on the scale of intensive mainstream farming. Most of these methods lead to better food due to the diminishing use of pesticides, herbicides and other added chemicals. This has led to a drive among younger generations to eat healthier and better quality food. Saving the planet is number one priority in many profit making countries making this an important issue and in the fore front. Most of these methods decrease emissions of agricultural activities.

Inhibitors

Most of these systems are very capital intensive and the growth output is not yet maximized as it is in the current form of farming.

Paradigms

Old: Use the soil to erosion of the top soil to grow the same crop year after year maximizing via mass use of pesticides, herbicides and other chemicals to continue productivity New: Use natural methods to clear the soil of contaminants or not use the soil at all for commercial food growth
