To foresee the information society in the next decade is difficult. Doing this requires full understanding on what the current information society looks like. Then with the help of some tool we project the changes in the next 10 years.

Here we may make two mistakes: 1) We mis-understand the currently information society 2) We use McLuhan's theory to project the future. To some extent the two mistakes converge: they overlook the power of business, which guides the development of information society.

Let us tackle mistake 1 first. How does the current information society looks like? Someone will say it offers me abundant information, thus we can serve our work or personal life better. Someone argues that information society shortens distance and people can connect with each other. For kids information society is simply fun. To me this question is just like ' how does the current Hamburg market looks like?' My answer is: Well, we should segment the market, target the right customer and position ourselves. It also applies to the information society. My answer is: it is a booming business with high growth rate.

Besides I fail to understand McLuhna's theory. Not only because it tries to complicate everything, which is against the essence of the book ' On Writing Well ' but also it favours politics ( War between Iraq and Iran), Psychology (Freud, Jung),Literature (James Joyce, D.H.Lowrence), Science(left hemisphere) instead of business. Maybe we should check what leads to the first and second world war.

Thus I only foresee the future information society based on my own understanding. It will be a Biz World. The tailor-made information service agency will emerge. They will handle your requirement depending on how much you pay; Trans-national marriage will increase by 200% per year as the technolgy will materialize your love and lust. The last, but not the least, kids will become adults in the next ten years. Special entertainment camp will be established where they can experience virtual reality in much higher quality.
