Mainly seen in Europe, a current trend is the emphasis on developing public transportation infrastructures to fight against traffic congestion. Traditional metro, bus or tramways coexist with bicycle paths and smart ways of mobility like networks of bikes or electric small cars to rent.
Enablers:
- efficiency - convenience - cost and time of driving car: rising fuel price, parking nightmare, time spent in traffic jam
Inhibitors:
- cost - convenience - long home to work distance: public transportation is not always advantageous to cover long-distance. - decentralization policy: business and administration relocated outside the city
