Millenium Development Goals
The Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) are eight international development goals that all 192 United Nations member states and at least 23 international organizations have agreed to achieve by the year 2015. They include reducing extreme poverty, reducing child mortality rates, fighting disease epidemics such as AIDS, and developing a global partnership for development.
Goal 1: Eradicate extreme poverty and hunger
Goal 2: Achieve universal primary education
Goal 3: Promote gender equality and empower women
Goal 4: Reduce Child Mortality Rate
Goal 5: Improve maternal health
Goal 6: Combat HIV/AIDS, malaria, and other diseases
Goal 7: Ensure environmental sustainability
Goal 8: Develop a global partnership for development
Education for All Goals
Six internationally agreed education goals aim to meet the learning needs of all children, youth and adults by 2015:
1st Goal: Expand early childhood care and education
2nd Goal: Provide free and compulsory primary education for all
3rd Goal: Promote learning, skills for young people and adults
4th Goal: Increase adult literacy by 50 per cent
5th Goal: Achieve gender parity by 2005, gender equality by 2015
6th Goal: Improve the quality of education
